FAQs

What can I expect during our couples, sex, or individual counselling sessions?

In sessions you can expect to establish attainable counselling goals, build a therapeutic relationship, and integrate healing into your life. We work together in the feelings of vulnerability and transparency to meet your goals.

I tailor my sessions to fit your comfortability I do offer an experiential aspect. In this learning environment, you can expect as a couple doing communication exercises together, having structured conversations, and being given tools to try outside of our sessions.

What are the benefits to couples, sex, or individual counselling?

There are endless benefits to seeing a therapist that you have a strong therapeutic rapport with who will witness you in your vulnerable spaces. You never have to verbalize anything you do not feel comfortable or ready to talk about.

A lot of the work we will do together in couples and sex therapy is rooted in increased communication, establishing boundaries, and intimate compassion.

Individual counselling surrounds acceptance, establishing boundaries, mitigating people-pleasing tendencies, and re-narrating the story we have told ourselves for so long. The story that used to benefit us, and now ready for an upgrade.

You will feel growth and progress in facing tough conversations with yourself as well as come to peace with your trauma.

Digging into past traumas can be daunting, but when you are guided by me, it will be rewarding.

How long do I need to come to see progress for couples and individual counselling?

Between 5-12 sessions you will see how progress is made. For all clients we establish your goals in the first session. This can include, listening, implementing communication techniques at home, intimacy exercises, and being committed to “While I don’t agree with you, I understand where you are coming from”.

At the end of the day, progress greatly depends on how much you integrate the learnings into your daily life.

Is my therapist covered under my insurance?

As a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), our sessions will be covered under most insurance policies. It is important to check the details first as not all insurance companies offer the same benefits.

Questions to ask your insurance provider may include:

  • Is my therapist covered?

  • What and who does my mental health insurance cover?

  • How much coverage do I have?

  • What is the coverage for couples counselling?

  • Do I need a referral from my physician?
